This Sunday Pastor Bill gave us part 2 of his message from our Patriotic Sunday. He encouraged us with two truths about God:

God is our help and God is our shield.

Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

The enemy of our souls is labeled in Scriptures the “father of all lies”. One lie he wants us to believe is that God has left us and is a million miles away from us. However, right here in Scripture we can disprove that lie. God is VERY PRESENT in the lives of those who know and love Him! He is an “everywhere at all times” kind of God.

Psalm 28:7-8 says, “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him and I am helped; therefore my heart exults, and with my song I shall thank Him.”

While we remember all of these good things that God’s given us, let us not forget to thank God for the things we do not have… the things He’s spared us from because of His faithful protection. God is our shield, our defense, ever ready to defend us from the attacks and the lies of the enemy.

We may never know this side of Heaven all of the things the Lord has protected us from. But this side of Heaven we DO know that He’s promised to be our help and our shield.

POINTS TO PONDER:

1. What are some situations you can look back on and see how God protected you?

2. Does it comfort you to know that God is your “very present help”?

3. Take some time this week to praise Him for being your help and shield.
