This Sunday we launched a brand new campaign called “Best Summer Ever”. In Pastor Bill’s message, he explained how we are committed to making this summer intentional! Summers have a tendency to be wasted away, we want to change that! Psalm 90, verses 10 & 12 say,

“As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years, or if due to strength, eighty years, yet their pride is but labor and sorrow; for soon it is gone and we fly away.”

“So teach us to number our days, that we may present to You a heart of wisdom.”

Pastor Bill gave us an acronym for “time” to help us remember how important this concept is…

T: Treasure the gift that time is. How valuable is an hour? Ask the businessman whose flight was delayed an hour and he missed an important business deal. How valuable is one minute? Ask the man who had the heart attack in the restaurant and an EMT happened to be sitting at the next table and CPR saved his life. How valuable is a second? Ask the person who hesitated for a second before swerving to avoid the oncoming car. How valuable is a fraction of a second? Ask the Olympic swimmer who missed qualifying by six-tenths of a second. Time really is valuable. A lot of people today spell love – T.H.I.N.G.S.   they try to buy love and make up for the time they don’t give.  However, love is really spelled T.I.M.E.

A.W. Tozer said, “Time is a resource that is nonrenewable and nontransferable. You cannot store it, slow it up, hold it up, divide it up or give it up. You can’t hoard it up or save it for a rainy day–when it’s lost it’s unrecoverable. When you kill time, remember that it has no resurrection.”

I: Invest your time. How are you spending the time that’s been given to you? Are you wasting it or investing it? Are you using it to spend time with Jesus, encourage others, and serve the way God’s called you to? The Bible says in 2 Peter 1:3 that God has given us everything we need for a godly life! That means we have all the tools we could ever need to invest our time wisely.

M: Maximize & manage your time. If you didn’t get a Best Summer Ever bucket this Sunday, we encourage you to pick one up next time you’re at church! (Or if you’re far away, let us know and we’ll get you the contents). Having a plan for the way you’re going to use your time allows you to be such a great steward of the time God has given you.

E: Enjoy your time! 1 Timothy 6:17 says, “Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.” As you learn to spend your time wisely, enjoy it! There’s nothing worse than a sour Christian. Jesus brings joy into our hearts, so may we allow that to overflow into every area of our lives!

POINTS TO PONDER:

  1. What does your schedule look like now? Are you making time for the things most important to you?
  2. If you could change one thing about the way your time is spent, what would it be?
  3. Do you view the way you use your time as an act of worship to God?
  4. What are some things you can do this summer to use your time to honor God?
