Psalm 96:1-4 says,

“Sing to the Lord a new song;
Sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, bless His name;
Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day.
Tell of His glory among the nations,
His wonderful deeds among all the peoples.
For great is the Lord and greatly to be praised;
He is to be feared above all gods.”

 Pastor Bill reminded us the importance of singing a new song, not just ones of what God has done in the past but what He is doing today. In the spirit of Isaiah where God says, “Behold, I am doing a new thing,” and the way of Jesus where He requests new wineskins for new wine and a new commandment for love. God is the same yesterday, today and forever but He is also the God who does new things! You and I have the opportunity to write the greatest song ever written if we will let the Lord write the verses as we live and walk by faith. Israel sang a new song of victory after the parting of the Red Sea, David sang a new song (Psalm 40) after God delivered him. Charles Spurgeon said, “There must be new songs on new occasions of triumph.”

POINTS TO PONDER:

  1. What does it mean to you to “sing a new song”?
  2. What’s one fresh thing the Lord is doing in your life that you can thank Him for?
  3. How can you prepare your heart for Thanksgiving?
