Jonah 3:1 says, “Now the Word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, ‘Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and proclaim to it the proclamation which I am going to tell you.” Aren’t you glad for second chances? In verse 3, we see that Jonah obeyed the Lord and went to Nineveh. Notice something here, God’s will for Jonah didn’t change. What changed? Jonah did! Pastor Bill reminded us on Sunday that, “God’s doesn’t change to suit us. He changes us to suit His purposes.” When we fall we often feel like our ministry has ended and there is no hope for recovery, but just like we see here in Jonah’s story, we know that our God is a God of the second chance! Here’s another great piece of encouragement that Pastor Bill brought out on Sunday, “The will of God will never lead you where the grace of God can’t keep you and the power of God can’t use you.”

So, why? Why is God so gracious to give us another opportunity after we have failed Him? Because it’s who He is! Psalm 103:8-14 says,

“The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness. HE will not always strive with us, not will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. Just as a father has compassion on His children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.”

POINTS TO PONDER:

1. If God’s telling you to “go” and “proclaim”, do you trust Him to give you the words to say?

2. When was a time in your life that God offered you a second chance?

3. Take some time today to praise God for being a God who offers second chances.
